This online information session provided participants with an opportunity to learn about women’s experience of intimate partner violence and abuse.
This session was our July 2022 Irish Network event.
The presenter provided information about domestic abuse as a process of coercive control employed by abusers to entrap women within the private sphere of intimate relationships and the home. Participants heard about the forms of abuse women experience and the impacts on them. A focus on the goal and intention of domestic violence perpetrators was included.
The presentation included a short guide for participants should they ever receive a disclosure of domestic abuse and with information that will enable them to signpost women to specialist domestic violence agencies.
Our speaker: Niamh Wilson, Women’s Aid
Niamh Wilson has worked in the area of domestic abuse for over 30 years. She has held various positions in domestic abuse organisations primarily working directly with survivors of intimate partner abuse.
In addition, Niamh has held positions in training, development and policy work. She combines working in the domestic violence sector with research and her particular interest is in researching learning supports for frontline professionals responding to domestic abuse.
She recently completed a PHD in Maynooth University.
