Fatigue Management VS Energy Optimisation

Videos

Resource Updated:

June 29, 2022

Is energy a finite resource or can you increase capacity for productivity using energy optimisation?

How much someone has and how they use it can influence how well they perform in many aspects of their life including work, home, relationships, mental health, in recovering from illness or injury and in their general feeling of wellbeing.

Historically, fatigue management has been the term used for the techniques used to help those for whom “fatigue is a predominant feature”, but could we all benefit from some “energy optimisation”?

Energy management strategies can result in increased revenue and productivity, as well as an overall improvement in wellbeing outcomes.

So, what could this mean for our clients?  Do they need a diagnosis of fatigue to benefit from the boost that energy optimisation strategies could bring to their rehabilitation, independence, and occupational performance?

Our speakers

Fran Hill

Fran is an advanced practitioner occupational therapist and director of an independent specialist fatigue practice, South Coast Fatigue, which she established 13 years ago.  The practice holds NHS contracts in Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight for ME/CFS and more recently Long Covid, but also works with private fatigue and VR clients and case management teams.

Fran particularly enjoys working with other independent specialists designing and supporting rehabilitation programmes for complex cases, where fatigue might be a barrier to a successful outcome.

Fran holds the annually revalidated CDMP, is trained in CBTi, following the R.E.S.T programme and holds a clinical caseload alongside the day to day running of the practice.

Liz Toy

Liz joined South Coast Fatigue in 2014 after 10 years as a community occupational therapist, working predominantly with working age adults with neurological conditions, spinal injury, and brain injury.

She enjoys the more unusual cases; developing bespoke, client led interventions which use energy optimisation and self-management strategies to promote maximum independence in a variety of situations.

Liz is CDMP accredited and trained in CBTi, following the R.E.S.T programme.

In 2017 she took on a dual role as South Coast Fatigue’s business manager, working with Fran to develop the practice and put in place the latest IT systems to enhance client experience and accessibility to the service.
